FRANKINCENSE HYDROSOL
Highland Frankincense Hydrosol, also known as aromatic water, is a by-product of the essential oil distillation process. Hydrosols contain all of the essences of the tree in every drop, just like essential oils but in a milder form; making them suitable for all manner of applications where essential oils would be too strong.
AROMATIC WATER
Hydrosols are made during the steam distillation of Highland Frankincense Resin that produces the essential oils. Out of all the distillation methods, steam distillation is the most effective in producing high quality hydrosol. Carefully controlled steam enters through pipes with small vents located under a grate in the bottom of the vessel containing the resin. The steam passes into a tube leading to the condenser, which contains coils through which runs cold water. This water cools down the steam turning it back into water (hydrosol) and essential oil. Maydi uses a stainless-steel separator for collecting the water and oil. This container is designed to efficiently separate the essential oil, which floats on the top, from the aromatic water underneath. The best results are achieved when distillation is performed very slowly and under the correct pressure, which means it can take an hour or longer to create a gallon of high quality hydrosol. Each gallon of hydrosol will contain 0.8 – 1 ml of dissolved essential oil which is not separated out due to its density. Frankincense hydrosol has a fresh scent that is resinous and sweet with woody undertones, similar to both the resin and the essential oil.
